Because I cant install custom firmware on the AT&T gateway, and I wanted to work with DD-WRT to use the OpenVPN client, etc. My VPN and aggresive blocklists can cause some sites to not work as intended (e.g., some bank websites block my VPN provider, etc.) So when I want to use a bank website, I simply change to the unprotected network. We do not postReviews by company employees or direct competitors. But that introdcuce a brand new problem that I am no longer able to use my work VPN (AT&T) client when I am connected wirelessly to my router.Obviously this is not an issue that Rogers Support would look into as the point they make is "well our router works, so it is your router."Here are my multiple isolation test activities so far - If I connect directly to CGN2 on ETH or wireless, the VPN client works. I had a plain old cable modem DOCSIS 2.0 (Webstar) for 10 years with my private LAN (currently on a WDN900 MyNet router) connected via straight ETH cable and life was good except Rogers internet service being down frequently due to their cable infrastructure on the street and never getting the speed that I was paying for.Last week Rogers asked me to try a new modem (Hitron CGN2) to fix the speed issues. The top reviewer of AT&T VPN writes "Extremely stable and very scalable ". On the other hand, the top reviewer of Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client writes "Plenty of functionality, integrates with Active Directory, and highly scalable". All attempts simply didn't work when it came to the VPN client or secure connections to a website when using wireless from my router.I called Rogers and the technical support answer is the same. But this one has been a tough one and close to packing up and changing it back to where I was.I finally decided to give it another try today with various other combinations that you folks had suggested which I hadn't tried until now. The question is why did it work before with a different cable modem and not now ? That is the only "change" in the setup. If anyone can shed some light on the likely root cause (port fowarding/routing/security setting ?) of this I'd appreciate it.I am more than happy to provide any additional information and I am fairly technically knowledgeable. But now I cannot get to the CGN2 anymore as the IP gateway it gives to my router is probably not an admin interface !So all possible combinations that I have tried haven't allowed me to connect the VPN client (or loggin to secure sites) if I connect via the wireless connection from my own router. But confirms CGN2 itself is funational with its firewall- If I connect direct ETH to my router, again VPN client works fine.- If I connect on wireless to my router (which gives me 300mb speed to my internal network), I get my usual internet connection, but any site which is secure or the VPN client doesn't work.- Lastly I changed the CGN2 to just a bridge (removing the Residential Gateway option), which still has the same problem for VPN from Wireless. Although I don't have the technical evidence to show how or why, I was able to prove for a fact that the old cable modem works when I use VPN and secure connections using wireless and I also get my 300mb connection to the router as well for internal use to NAS or printer etc. So it is very frustrating trying to prove that the new Cable modem CGN2 was indeed the culprit. Bingo ! all works just fine. Optimize fortnite for macThe one thing that I’m not sure of at this point, following your test description, is whether or not you had the wireless on the CGN2 turned off when you were connecting via your WDN900 wireless network, and whether or not you had set both devices so that they will work in that configuration (CGN2 in gateway mode, WDN900 as wireless device). So, I think you have a couple of options to accomplish what you are trying to do: As you have already noticed, the wireless performance is less than stunning. Since your previous Webstar modem, Rogers and gone in the direction of gateway devices, combining both modem and router all in one. I might need a few more details from you but here goes. I’m not sure you’re going to like it here. All router functionality in the modem is turned off. Running the modem in Bridge mode which is equivalent to your Webstar modem. That takes a little adjusting on both devices to make it work. The normal problem in this configuration is a double NAT situation, and issues with port forwarding when running two routers are running back to back. Maybe there is a plan here… I would be tempted to run a reset on the WDN900 with it connected to the CGN2 and reset the WDN900 parameters, but I still think that there should not be any functional difference between your last configuration with the Webstar modem and now, with the CGN2 in Bridge mode.In order to run the CGN2 in Gateway mode and use the WDN900 for wireless there are some slight adjustments to make. The DCP3825 works that way and the CGN3 used to work that way until a very recent firmware update. I’m not sure if this is possible, but try logging into the modem using 192.168.100.1 as the login web page when it is in Bridge mode. However, there is very little use for logging into the modem in Bridge mode unless you suspect that you might be having a cable signal issue, and want to check the downstream and upstream signal levels. The address that the CGN2 provides to the WDN900 may not be the user interface. That is food for thought as well. Reboot the WDN900.If you were to connect the CGN2 to one of the LAN ports instead of the WAN port at this point, the WDN900 should act as nothing but a wireless access point, instead of a router behind a modem. Turn off the DHCP server on the WDN900 so that the CGN2 handles all of the LAN IP address assignments. This will allow you to log into the WDN900 in the future. ![]() At&T Vpn Client Password Change EtcBut it baffles me as to why.The VPN client is a fairly straight forward client, no voip, just access to company network so that I can get my files, emails etc and it has worked for nearly 20 years I think (of course version updates with the time). My router no changes.- Tested VPN from my router wireless and it Worked ! so this confirms something in the CGN2 getting in the way.- But sadly when I changed the CGN2 to be in bridge mode, back to squire one, no VPN from my router wireless. So for now my conclusion is that disabling the firewall on CGN2 in gateway mode will fix the problem (although not ideal) considering I have tight security from my router. MAC filtering etc), but wanted everything to work the way it was as the only thing that change was the cable modem.Since posting I did further tests last night and here is what I discovered.- I factory resest the CGN2 to get access again, disabled wireless, password change etc (the usual suspects for basic control)- as expected VPN test wireless from my router failed.- I then disabled the CGN2 firewall leaving it as gateway mode. It worries me that this new router is giving me other new headaches to watch now.If you come across any other suggestion please let me know and I will certainly do my part to help the community with my tests when I have a bit of time.I want to Thank you so much for the detailed response and thank you for your dedication and time spent in helping others.
